"Say No to Racism": Neymar Suject to Racist Slur following Ligue 1 Classique
A Ligue 1 discipline committee will look into allegations that Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar was the latest victim to racist abuse during their 1-0 loss against fellow French rival Marseille on Sunday. The league will likely to launch a full investigation, according ESPN.
According to the French Federation's rules, "Racist behaviour could be a maximum of 10 matches while being found guilty of spitting could earn a player a six-game ban." PSG issued a statement on Wednesday supporting Neymar that said: "The club underline that there is no place for racism in society, football and our lives and asks everyone to speak out against all types of racism." The club also said they have "faith in the LFP's disciplinary commission to investigate and clarify what happened. The club are willing to collaborate in any way needed to advance the investigations."
Neymar himself made a statement via Instagram on Wednesday, saying "In our sport, aggressions, insults, swearing, are part of the game. Of the dispute. You can't be affectionate. I understand this guy partly. All is a part of the game. But racism and intolerance are unacceptable." Racism accusations need to be treated with sincere respect when it comes to serious allegations as such. What makes the situation more tricky is the supposed culprit, Alvaro Gonzalez, claims his innocence and that Neymar is just a sore loser. Gonzalez's teammates and club have been coming to his backing too. Either way PSG fans still should likely prepare to be without Neymar for some time while this whole ordeal gets thoroughly reviewed and rectified hopefully.
Below is a picture of Neymar's lengthy instagram post which further details his personal experience and how he feels about the situation after reflecting for a day after the match.
